The 1st Mahjong World Cup (MWC) – MCR Teams Rimini 2025(日本語 ver.)

  1. Match formats:

Each team has at least 4 players, and can have one optional player to enhance the performance making a replacement before a session if needed.

A 5-day team competition comprising at least 12 sessions with elimination after Day 2 to 16 teams, further elimination after Day 3 to 8 teams, and the final four on Day 5.

On Day 3, the 16 eliminated teams will compete to determine their final ranking.

On Day 4 and Day 5, an additional 7-session individual competition with the high-to-high format will be held for players eliminated from the team event.

 

  1. Highlights:
    • The first edition awardingNational Honours in MCR teams. Each country and region is expected to send its best MCR players.
    • Countries will competefor their rankings within the MCR community and for quotas in the next edition.
    • The most competitive match format:the 4 teams compete directly against each other using a perfect seating scheme where each player competes against all opponents from the other 3 teams over 4 matches (see schedule below). This ensures players have direct control; results are not dependent on random seating.
    • Enjoy 5 days and20 sessions of Mahjong on a Mediterranean beach near San Marino.
    • On-site Duplicate exhibitionsduring the night time, and On-line Duplicate adventure for top teams after the MWC in 2025&2026

 

  1. Registration fees:

Basic team fee: €960 per team (4 players) , covering both team and individual tournaments plus 5 lunches (Wednesday to Sunday , 1-5 Oct).

Registration of reserve players is optional and incurs a fee of €200 per player, including also the individual tournament and 5 lunches.

Individual tournament only: €30 per player (not participating in the team tournament)

* Other fees: For companions, the cost of each lunch is €35 per person. The hotel has granted us a special discounted rate of approximately 20%: Double/twin room at €100 per night; single-use double room at €85 per night, showing a special code which will be provided at registration.

 

  1. Prizes:

Award for the top 8 teams and top 3 MVP players.

Award for the top 10 players in the individual event.

Quotas for the next edition will be distributed according to the countries and regions teams ranking.

* Awards for on-site Duplicate exhibitions and on-line Duplicate adventure among top teams.

 

  1. Quotas distribution (proposed):

32 teams allocated according to MIL’s zonal principles, historical performance, MCR players populations, and IOC principles:

  1. 9teams: China, France, Italy (3 teams each).
  2. 4teams: Japan, Netherlands (2 teams each).
  3. 14teams: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hungary,  Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, Reunion Island (on behalf of African Zone) (1 team each).
  4. 3 teams: potential mixed team(s) for Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia

* 2 teams designated as Independent Teams for those unable to use their country or region’s flag and name following IOC principles. These teams will use the neutral flag (MIL logo) and be named as Independent Team A/B.

* Countries and regions not listed are welcome to apply for a team or a mixed team spot before 10 July.

* The listed countries and regions may request additional teams before 10 July; these will be considered after standard quota teams are confirmed.

* Each country and region will compete to earn its quotas for the next edition.

 

  1. Key Deadlines:

Confirm participation: By 30 June.

Request additional team: By 10 July (subject to approval following confirmation of standard quota teams).

Finalize team roster: By 15 July.

  1. Schedule:

An exhilarating 5 days Mahjong vacation for all players.

There will be 3 main events from 1 to 5 Oct:

  1. a) The 1st Mahjong World Cup – MCR Teams, from 1 to 5 Oct
  2. b) The 1st Mahjong World Cup – Ranking Match, on 3 Oct (for 17-32 teams)
  3. c) The 1st Mahjong World Cup – Open Individual Championship, from 4 to 5 Oct (for players who do not advance to the semi-finals and companions)

* Duplicate Pioneers – Night-time duplicate exhibition with additional prizes

* On-line Duplicate adventure for top teams after the MWC in 2025&2026

 

  1. Seating scheme:

A perfect seating scheme for each group each day: each player on one team will compete against all players from the other 3 teams in their group over 4 sessions.
