The Anniversary of Establishment of MIL Danish Open Injects Vigor for Duplicate
In order to bring mahjong into the international mind sports family, Mahjong International League (MIL) initiated the preparation work in Beijing, China in May 2015. From proposal of duplicate format of competitive mahjong to sustainable promotion in five continents in the world, MIL has achieved milestone growth this year.
Milestone Events after Preparation of MIL
On May 11, 2015, MIL Preparation Committee formed by representatives from 11 countries and regions jointly held the news conference in Beijing Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and announced to prepare to set up MIL, a legal international mahjong organization that aims to coordinate global mahjong organizations and regulate global mahjong competitive activities.
On July 3,2015, MIL was formally registered in Lausanne, Switzerland.
From October 24 to 28, 2015, the 1st World Mahjong Sports Games was successfully held in Sanya. Around 300 excellent mahjong players from 16 countries and regionsfrom five continents attended this grand mahjong “Olympic” event.
At the same time, MIL held the 1st EC meeting, discussing such topics as regulations, promotion and events, and voting for presidium and all professional committees.
On February 26, 2016, MIL made application statement to IMSA in order to turn mahjong into a mind game.
On April 21, 2016, the Executive Council of IMSA formally approved MIL to be the observing organization. Mahjong is expected to show up in the next formal competition of IMSA.
Traces of duplicate mahjong have been widespread in the world
Within only one year, the target that competitive mahjong would be promoted into the international mind sports family via innovated duplicate mahjongas well as standardized, competitive and sport organizations by MIL has been realized. The innovative duplicate mahjong plays the decisive role. It gets rid of the inherent “luck” factor in mahjong to make this game more fair and also to add competitiveness and research ability.
On May 11, 2015, MIL hosted The 1st Duplicate Mahjong Exhibition Tournament at Beijing Hotel. Top-notch competitive mahjong players from 11 countries participated in it.
On May 17, 2015, Danish MCR Championship 2015 was held in Copenhagen. The duplicate mahjong individual exhibition tournament was introduced into Europe. The replay format of duplicate mahjong came into fashion.
On July 18, 2015, Japan Mahjong Championship was held in Tokyo. MIL was specially invited to introduce the organization method of the duplicate mahjong. The Japanese mahjong online platform started to explore the application of duplicate mahjong.
On August 30,2015, SingaporeMahjong League held personal qualification trials for duplicate mahjong. 4 players were selected to participate in 1stWorld Mahjong Sports Games on behalf of Singapore.
From September 5 to 7, 2015, China Qingdao Mahjong Association hosted the group qualification trials for China region for the coming of World Mahjong Sports Games. Team duplicate format was officially applied in China’s nation-class mahjong games. The real capability of players became the dominant factor of competition.
From September 18 to 20, 2015, China Tianjin Mahjong Association held the personal qualification trials for the World Mahjong Sports Games. Individualduplicate mahjongwas comprehensively applied.
From October 24 to 28, 2015, the team and individual game of World Mahjong Sports Games fully applied the duplicate mahjong. It was also tried in other carnival rules such as Japanese mahjong and Sichuan mahjong, etc.
On February 26, 2016, 2016 IMSA Elite mind Games was held; four teams elected online took part in the duplicate mahjong team exhibition tournament.
In April 2016, MCR Duplicate Online came into full service. The global mahjong lovers can compete under the duplicate format.
It has become a necessary tendency for MCR Open Danish Mahjong Championship 2016 to highlight the duplicate mahjong.
From May 6 to 8, 2016, in Copenhagen, Denmark, 72 rivals from 11 countries competed for 10 rounds lasting for three days. Finally the first three competitors of the team game were disclosed. The rank is as follows: Lenth` F I. S. H. Team from Denmark, Chinese FangzhuangShuimu Team and Russian Drunk Russion Bears Team.
In this team game, the traditional integral mixed game system was employed. The first three teams with higher scores are exactly from countries that have deeper promotion and research of the duplicate mahjong. Denmark acts as the leader of duplicate mahjong promotion in Europe. Its judgment team has deeper understanding and discussion of the duplicate mahjong. Russia held the first European MCR individual duplicate game in January 2016. Chinese Fangzhuang took over all the test activities of duplicate mahjong initiated by MIL. The excellent scores of the three teams in MCR Open Danish Mahjong Championship 2016 fully reflect the function of duplicate mahjongin improving the mahjong tactics of national standard through horizontal comparison and replay.

More countries hope to introduce in the duplicate format.
As one of the important components of MCR Open Danish Mahjong Championship 2016, MIL duplicate mahjong team exhibition tournament was held during the competition. The rivals from the countries attending the open tournament were very active. Finally, 16 rivals from 9 countries formed four teams to compete in the team duplicate game. After eight rounds of intense competition, Dutch-Swedish team won the champion and was awarded the MIL special trophy.
At request of MCR Open Danish Mahjong Championship 2016 Committee, MIL specially made a whole set of duplicate game tools and score software that is easy to carry and transport and gave it to the Committee, which will be used for its future promotion in Europe. Li Wenlong, secretary-general of MIL, Xu Huaou, president of Rule Committee and Song Panjing, responsible technical person of Fangzhuang Club helped Tina, vice president of MIL in the preparation work of the duplicate game. After the game, Chinese FangzhuangShuimu Team made on-the-spot replay and illustration of the game as the special guest.
Countries such as Italy and Russia expressed to host the MCR game based on duplicate mahjongin October and November this year and hoped that MIL could provide technical support and send staffs to attend it. During the game, MIL also held the non-formal conference of EC representatives in European zone. At the 1st anniversary of MIL, it shared the development course of MIL, discussed and formulated the promotion plan of member countries.
In the coming few years, MIL will set up a standardized competition system and implement the plan of master scores. Promotion and elite competitions will be hosted worldwide, and the 2nd World Mahjong Sports Games will also be held in 2018. MIL hopes to make this time-honored Oriental mind sport more standardized so as to gain much attention and favor worldwide.
