Russia will host First in Europe MCR Duplicate Tournament
RUSSIA, Moscow. — Russia is following the race from Sanya, China by holding an MCR Duplicate event, which will be the first ever in Europe. The Russian MCR Duplicate Open will take place in Moscow on February 6-7, 2016.
The key essence of this innovative format lies in “duplicity” – a hand won’t be played just once as in traditional mahjong. Instead, through some specialized techniques, all the tiles in a particular deal can be restored to their original order, and the identical deal can be played with at other tables by different players. Scores are thus compared deriving new measures based on deviation from average scores.
Exactly thirty-two players are expected to play in this “Individuals” formula tournament. “Individuals” as opposed to “Teams” means that each player will complete on a standalone basis. Sixteen players in each of two sections will play 5 sessions having chance to not only meet with all other fifteen players in section, but also to compete as the same Wind seat against all other players! The final session seatings will be based on their current standings.
Two special guests from China are expected to visit the 1st Russian MCR Duplicate Open and participate: General Secretary of Mahjong International League (MIL) Mr. Li Wenlong and his wife Mrs. Song Panjing.
