Domestic and Foreign Competitive Mahjong Elites Gather to Compete for Mind Sport- Grand Opening of 2017 “New Moonlight Cup” Shengdian International Mahjong Elites Invitational Tournament
Hefei, China, 12 May 2017 – Supervised by High-level Players Commission of Mahjong International League , the 2017 “New Moonlight Cup” Shengdian International Mahjong Elites Invitational Tournament commenced in Hefei Xueyuan Mansion on the morning of May 12. Li Wenlong, General Secretary of Mahjong International League, Li Jiasheng, President of Shengdian International Mahjong Sports Association, Huang Xiaowu, former Deputy Director of Social Sports Guidance Center of the provincial sports bureau, Mr. Tang Yonglong, Deputy Secretary and Director of Party Working Committee of Sanxiaokou Street, Shen Xiongjun, Wang Xiaolong and Dong Xia, leaders of Anhui New Moon Light Group were present at the opening ceremony.
This Elite Invitational Tournament has been jointly guided by High-level Players Commission of Mahjong International League, Anhui Social Sports Guidance Center and Sanxiaokou Cultural Alliance of Luyang District, Hefei, and sponsored by Shengdian International Mahjong Sports Association and Anhui New Moon Light Group. This Tournament is held to celebrate the competitive mahjong entering into the 6th International Mind Sports, and is aimed at creating a high-level and high-standard club competition in compliance with the international mind sports standards.
This Tournament has attracted 168 players from over 20 provinces and cities of China mainland, Chinese Taipei and Singapore. Among the players, there are dozens who have been awarded individual or team championships. Besides, champions of the King Game and King of Kings, champions of former world mahjong competitions, world championship champions and Japanese tournament champions also attended the event. The players are aged 40 on average and most of them have over 10 years of experience in international mahjong competition. In terms of the registration conditions, player number, player capability and age structure, the event can be honored as the best of domestic and foreign mahjong events in recent years.
The competition has adopted the Rules of Chinese Mahjong Competition (Trial) issued by State Sports Bureau in 1998. During the 10-round heated competition in 3 days, 168 players from 42 teams will compete for team championship and individual championship. To realize “Justice, Fairness and Openness” in the event, the Committee, starting from the competition rules and process, has made standardized and modularized designs. The standardized lottery grouping method was adopted before the event. As a result, both division of mahjong organizations and the random factor of players within the team was taken into consideration. A whole-process live broadcasting of grouping lottery was also given, and the first eight rounds of team seats were published in advance. Additionally, the individual champions will be decided by high-score competition after 8 rounds.
