Results of I Russian MCR Duplicate Open
RUSSIA, Moscow. — On February 6-7, 2016 I Russian MCR Duplicate Open took place in Moscow, which brought together 32 players from Russia and China. This tournament was the first ever tournament for duplicate mahjong in Europe.
The winner of the tournament and the first champion of Russia on MCR Duplicate Mahjong is Sergey Vasiliev (Moscow), who earned 36 points in this 6-session event.
The tournament was run by an entirely new system of accounting results – duplicate, in which each deal has to be played at all tables, and players compete with the players sitting at the same line (Wind). Player’s results in each deal was determined as deviation from the average GP score at the same line.
The tournament was attended by 32 players from Moscow and Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Ryazan, including two foreigners – Li Wenlong and Song Panjing from China. Li Wenlong is General Secretary of the Mahjong International League (MIL), which offered the duplicate mahjong format to the world in October 2015 in Sanya, China at the 1st World Mahjong Sports Games.
The tournament was won by Sergey Vasiliev (Moscow), 2nd place was taken by Anna Stepanova (St. Petersburg), the 3rd — by Tatyana Goptareva (Moscow). For top 8 players in addition to prizes from championship organizers additional prizes from MIL were awarded.

The duplicate tournament used slightly different technology, primarily in preparing and handling of deals that’s why a help from the team of volunteers was highly appreciated (see photo).
